  • How do I finish IntriG Raised-Panel Wainscot after it’s installed?
  • Our wainscoting will be shipped pre-primed with a white, lacquer-based primer. After installation, any areas that were sanded or trimmed resulting in exposed MDF, should be primed with quality primer. The entire wainscot should then be lightly sanded with fine-grit to ensure a proper bond for painting. After sanding, wainscoting may be painted with any oil or water based paint. We do not offer a stainable wainscot at this time.
  • What if I have baseboard heaters?
  • This is largely a design choice. If your heaters are standard height, we recommend that you order your wainscot with a base height 1-3" above the heaters. If they are tall, like older ones that are sometimes 24" tall, we recommend that you just ignore them for ordering purposes. During installation, you will just cut around them.
  • What do you do for outside corners?
  • We will provide extra length on both pieces for these corners. We recommend that you miter and biscuit these corners. Other options and more instructions will be included with your order.
  • What is the widest piece I can receive?
  • Our wainscot comes in up to 12' widths.
  • Will I receive exactly 1 panel per wall?
  • STANDARD and DELUXE panels are made in up to 12’ section widths. For walls longer than 12’, we will provide multiple sections with tongue-and-groove joints. MID-WALL panels are made in up to 4’ section widths. For walls longer than 4’, we will provide multiple sections with tongue-and-groove joints.
  • What is the shortest wall section that can receive a panel?
  • 12 5/8”. Any wall section that is less than 12 5/8” will be supplied as a solid piece.
  • How low can my window be and still receive a panel underneath it?
  • Windows with a sill height that is less than the base height + 9" will be supplied with a solid piece of wainscot with no panel. Example: if your base height is 6", then any window with a sill height of less than 15" (6+9) will have a solid piece of wainscot.
  • What is the difference between your system of wainscot and traditional systems?
  • There are a few key differences: The biggest difference from an installation point of view is that traditional systems give you all of the pieces individually and require you to assemble them on site. For example, if you order a 12' wall with a traditional system, you may get up to 20 different pieces that have to be assembled together. With the Intrig wainscot system, you will get 1 piece that you can put directly on the wall. Of course, we also offer shaped designs, whereas most traditional systems only give you rectangles. Perhaps the most noticeable difference is that our panels are computer-balanced so that you don't have any partial sections at the end of your wall.
  • Do I have to butt wainscoting to the outside edge of window casings?
  • No. If you want your wainscoting to run flush with your window openings (as shown in drawing) instead of butt to the casing, just give us the measurements to your window opening instead of the edge of the casing (window measurements A & B on page 6 of the Order Form Instructions).
  • How thick is your wainscoting?
  • 5/8".
  • What do I do about electrical outlets?
  • Electrical outlets may be moved to the bottom-center of a rail or a panel or they may be positioned in the base area of the wainscot. Examples and more instructions will be included with your order.
